Airport Road Sweeper Waste Recycling Facility supply for Main Runway Rehabilitation Contract
VolkerFitzpatrick, having been awarded the contract to resurface the main runway at Gatwick Airport under its £1.2 billion programme of investment, has commissioned Sweeptech to supply a Road Sweeper and Tanker Wet Waste Recycling Facility.
The project will involve resurfacing an area of 400,000m² – the equivalent of 100 football pitches – with approximately 70,000 tonnes of asphalt.
Carrying out work on Gatwick’s main runway is a major challenge with up to 53 aircraft landing and taking off every hour. In order to keep the runway operational all resurfacing and associated works from March to December 2012 are being undertaken during night possessions. With just seven working hours each night VolkerFitzpatrick will remove and replace about 130m of runway at a time.
Sweeptech’s waste facility will deliver liquid and aggregate recycling opportunities for all road sweepers and tankers supporting the project. Outside recycling delivery the facility has been commissioned for the increased operational efficiencies it creates in addition to substantial carbon footprint reduction.
Sweeptech has also been commissioned to supply the Road Sweeping, High Pressure Jetting and ancillary waste water recycling (with suspended solid removal) processes during this project.
